I worked primarily in the Trust's archive, responding to research enquiries, assisting with collections management, and doing independent research. Other tasks included assisting with public tours in Dove Cottage and working with outreach groups, such as universities on study abroad, during their visits to the Trust.
This internship is in the most stunning location and is with the best team. The curatorial team at the Trust provided incredible support and encouragement and I was involved in a variety of professional and personal experiences that I could not have had anywhere else.
I loved getting more exposure to possible applications of my English degree. I discovered a love for conservation, collections management, and curatorial work that has led me to look into library science or museum studies as possible graduate school routes. Living abroad for three months was challenging in some ways, but I learned a lot about myself and made incredible friends.
What advice do you have for future interns? Don't be afraid to make it all about you! I was stymied in some ways by my desire to be a good intern and struggled to prioritize my own interests and experience.
