Paid Internship - Library Services Lifelong Learning
The Lifelong Learning department is part of the Community Engagement Department of the County Library. The Lifelong Learning team plans, manages, develops and executes programs, events, and initiatives that draw participants from across the Salt Lake valley and beyond.
The Lifelong Learning department is looking for an intern willing to contribute and provide support with various tasks and projects during the 2023 Spring Term. This intern will assist with initiatives, learn elements of project management, and help complete tasks in preparation for large events. In addition, this intern will take lead and be responsible for creative projects (for example, writing and designing a quarterly newsletter for educators).
This intern will be introduced to a wide spread of disciplines, and gain experience in: research and reference; communication (verbal and written); project management; public/customer service; virtual program delivery; community partnerships.
Work is primarily Monday through Friday with flexible hours to accommodate a school schedule. There may be occasional work on the weekends.
Applicants must be currently enrolled or recently graduated from a Bachelor OR Graduate program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Research topics and partners.
- Oversee educational newsletter: research topics, write content, and design e-newsletter. Create front-loaded content that can be shared throughout the year.
- Assist in event preparation.
- Help work large system events and programs.
- Provide support for large system initiatives.
- Collaborate with other interns (as appropriate) and Lifelong Learning team members.
- Participate in professional development and training.
- Provide input, opinions, and perspective on processes and decisions.
Paid Internship - Communications and Research

To ensure that New Americans feel welcome and supported, the Salt Lake County Office for New Americans (ONA) was established in 2016. Its goal is to improve the lives of Salt Lake County’s New American residents by maximizing their civic, social, and economic potential. This is accomplished by connecting New Americans to community-based organizations that have the resources to help them thrive and feel welcomed here.
The Office for New Americans in the Salt Lake County Mayor’s Office is looking for a communications and research intern willing to contribute and provide support with various tasks during the 2023 Spring Term. The internship is specifically designed for candidates with a strong interest in government and policy with skills in research, data collection, and data evaluation, as well as communications, social media, and graphic design. In addition to county-level work, the internship will also introduce interns to state, federal, and grassroots work.
The successful candidate will support the Office for New Americans’ work with community outreach and communications. Applicants should be self-motivated and willing to work in a fast-paced environment. Work is primarily Monday through Friday with flexible hours to accommodate a school schedule. There may be occasional work on the weekends.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Participate in professional development programs developed by Intern Program Managers.
- Read and interpret complex laws, regulations, ordinances, and reports.
- Prepare complex narrative and statistical reports, correspondence, and other documents.
- Gather, evaluate, interpret, and share data.
- Assist with drafting communication pieces, including the ONA e-newsletter.
- Research events and resources throughout the county, especially those tailored for diverse populations.
- Update information on the Office for New Americans website.

Paid Internship - Communications/Programs and Partnerships
The Office of Programs and Partnerships is looking for a creative communications intern willing to contribute and provide support with various tasks beginning in the 2023 Spring Term. The successful candidate will support the Office of Programs and Partnerships work with community outreach and communications. The internship is specifically designed for candidates with a strong interest in government and policy with skills in communications, social media, and writing. In addition to the county-level work, the internship may also expose interns to state, federal, and local work. The intern will have the opportunity to interact with elected officials and other community leaders.
The Office of Programs and Partnerships oversees a range of policy initiatives, special projects, programs, and partnerships, and funding collaborations that help achieve the Mayor’s vision for the greater Salt Lake metropolitan area. We work with local governments and with national, state, and private sector partners to develop collective action around regional challenges, entrenched social problems, and unique opportunities to maximize the public good. This currently includes policy initiatives on homelessness and housing, which will be the focus of this internship.
