Internships require 120 hours of work with exact schedules and number of hours being determined individually. Course credit can be provided if approved by interns’ institutions. A stipend of $1,000 will be provided at the end of the semester.

Apply through BYU's Handshake (click on the job titles) by August 15.

Digital Preservation Internship

  • Join our Digital Initiatives team and gain hands-on experience in digitization and digital preservation! This in-person internship offers the opportunity to work with historical records by helping capture and process Utah birth and death certificates for online access. You’ll learn the fundamentals of archival imaging, metadata creation, and digital preservation while contributing to an essential public resource. In addition to hands-on digitization work, interns will receive mentorship in best practices for handling fragile records, quality control, and long-term digital stewardship.

Records Accessioning Internship

 (x2)

  • Spend a semester with our processing archivists! This in-person internship consists of working with staff in accessioning newly acquired historical records into the Archives permanent collection. You’ll have the opportunity to learn the accessioning framework applied at the State Archives and gain hands-on experience in identifying, organizing, inventorying, housing, and describing a variety of records from local governments and state agencies in Utah.

USHRAB Internship

  • Help improve public access to funding opportunities, training, and statewide preservation efforts! This in-person internship supports the Utah State Historical Records Advisory Board (USHRAB, opens in a new tab) by assisting with content updates for its website. You’ll help update pages about grant recipients, create new pages to highlight microgrant projects, and improve navigation for public users interested in joining the Board, attending trainings, or exploring past newsletters. This is a great opportunity for a student with strong WordPress experience to apply their skills in a real-world setting while supporting archival work statewide.
