Apply by 1/29/25. The Provo City Council is looking for an intern to assist the Executive Director and the Council in a variety of assignments and administrative projects. The internship will begin May 2025. This position involves gathering data and analyzing it to improve the performance and policies of the Municipal Council with regards to Provo City and its citizens. Qualified, civic-minded individuals interested in providing these services to the residences of Provo are encouraged to apply.

What do I need to apply?

  • Must be enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program related to political science, public administration, planning, or another related field.
  • Must have strong analytical and writing skills.
  • Ability to conduct research.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Valid, lawful driver license is required at time of appointment.

What are the main duties?

  • May include, providing support to the Municipal Council with responsibilities for legislation, appropriations, and oversight.
  • Providing policy analysis covering a wide variety of City programs, projects, and budgets.
  • Making recommendations and assisting in designing new programs or processes.
  • Maintaining required records.
  • Receiving and reviewing requests.
  • Assisting in and performing basic and general research and analysis with general direction to acquire specialized knowledge.
  • Refining information for presentations.
  • Conducting and attend meetings.
  • Writing and submitting various reports.
  • Collecting and analyzing data.
  • Communicating findings.
  • Evaluating programs and policies.
  • Reviewing budgets.
  • Drafting reports, policies, and legislation.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

What are the hours and duration?

Approximately 40 hours per week through the Summer and 20 hours per week during the school year.

What is the selection process?

Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted, with the first screening being held on January 30, 2025. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed above to be eligible for consideration.

What is the compensation?

Pay Rate: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour (depending on experience)

Housing Program and Policy Research Internship

Salt Lake City’s Department of Community and Neighborhoods (CAN) is implementing two housing plans: Housing SLC, our five-year moderate-income housing plan; and Thriving in Place, our anti-displacement plan. CAN is seeking an intern that is interested in local government’s role in housing to further the commitments made in those two housing plans.
