2025 Legislative Session Internship - UT Attorney General's Office

The Utah Attorney General's Office invites college students to apply for a legislative internship opportunity. Successful applicants for the Utah Attorney General Legislative Internship will work closely with the General Counsel during the legislative session to advance the priorities, efforts, and goals of the Office.   

Designed for the college student, interns will attend legislative meetings, track bills and issues during the 2025 Legislative Session, and assist with research on a myriad of issues and public policies related to criminal justice, privacy, elections, administrative law, appropriations, separation of powers, litigation, and more. Interns commit to participate full-time during the session and may apply with their college for credit.

Responsibilities


  • Attending, taking notes on, and reporting on committee meetings and floor time
  • Assisting our legislative liaisons
  • Bill and policy researchTracking bills
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Ability to hold the Confidential Information received during the session in strict confidence and exercise a reasonable degree of care to prevent disclosure to others.
  • Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.Ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand.
  • Ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted.
  • Ability to speak clearly so others can understand you.
  • Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.

  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography and transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Community Outreach Internship

The Community Outreach Internship provides an excellent opportunity for students to learn about the internal organization and operations of the Mayor’s Office. This job is designed to provide students with paid professional experience to further their education and training and is academically oriented for the student’s benefit. To qualify students must be enrolled in an accredited school program related to the type of work they are expected to perform. Positions will terminate upon completion of the internship period. Incumbents may deal with confidential information, which is expected to be maintained as confidential and shared only on a need-to-know basis with city employees and elsewhere when authorized by the intern’s designated city supervisor.
