The Internal Communications Intern will assist the manager in communications to keep Salt Lake County employees informed and updated. They will assist in planning, writing, and design as needed. This will be an opportunity for students who are interested in communications, digital communications, and design. APPLY BY AUGUST 15.
This intern will work in Mayor's Financial Administration and be assigned a mentor to guide and assist the intern's development and growth.
This is a paid internship; the intern will receive $15.00/hour and can work up to 205 hours during the term. Work is primarily Monday through Friday with flexible hours to accommodate a school schedule. There may be occasional work on the weekends.
Applicants must be currently pursuing a degree (second-year status and above OR graduate student) or recently graduated from a university/college.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Students with a focus in Communications, Digital Communications, or English are preferred; but all applicants are welcome. A background in design is strongly preferred, but not required.
- Have obtained at least sophomore status in a bachelor's degree program or a graduate level program. Student can receive class credit for this position.
- Advanced writing and communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Suite, and Excel.
- Cursory knowledge of graphic design, especially Adobe Suite or Canva.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assists in email writing, editing, design, and implementation.
- Uploads assets to an intranet site.
- Research various monthly topics.
- Builds out monthly communication proposals.
- Assists in employee event preparation and execution.
- Collaborates with other interns and Communications team members.
- Research community events and calendars throughout the county.
- Participates in the Internship Leadership events, which are most often luncheons with leaders from within the County. The purposes are to help interns build leadership skills and to provide networking opportunities.
- Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities to:
- Advanced English writing skills.
- Intern must be able to maintain professionalism at all times, even when stressed. Intern will have the opportunity to interact with elected officials and other community leaders.
- Intern should have strong organizational and time management skills.
- Intern should also feel comfortable explaining concepts verbally.
- Maintain strict confidentiality.
