TechBuzz, in partnership with Silicon Slopes, invites Utah college and university students to apply to our internship program. It offers Utah students an opportunity to engage with Utah’s tech leaders, hone writing skills, and build a professional network. Interns will gain hands-on experience in business journalism, covering cutting-edge technologies and startup ecosystems.
Interns connect with Utah’s tech ecosystem through attending industry events, including Silicon Slopes events. Interns conduct interviews and collaborate on projects. This real-world experience, combined with the support of a structured team environment and regular progress meetings, equips students with the skills and connections necessary for successful job placement post-graduation.

Full Description:
The internship offers students from Utah colleges and universities with opportunities to become a published author and meet potential employers. Past TechBuzz interns now work for VCs, tech companies, and prominent news organizations. Interns will learn business journalism and the process of crafting effective news articles. Interns will learn much about technical writing, and will cover technologies that are often highly specialized and technical. Interns learn much about corporate communication and will become a part of a writing, production and social media team.
Interns will become familiar with Utah’s vibrant technology community. They will become acquainted with many of Utah’s business leaders and investment firms.
All articles written by interns will be published on TechBuzz.news, SiliconSlopes.com and app.siliconslopes.com with their name and university affiliation in the byline.
During the internship, interns will be able to attend conferences, symposia, summits where they can network with tech leaders, organize and conduct interviews, etc. Silicon Slopes hosts several events each month. Interns may report on these and many other events.
Ideally, interns will be a part of a team in a class whereby they will collaborate on projects, communicate as a team, and participate in weekly Zoom meetings to report progress.

Internship communications will be via Zoom, email, and text. We will use Google Docs to create and edit articles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research & Interviews: Investigate Utah tech companies, prepare and conduct interviews with founders and CEOs.
- Writing & Publishing: Draft and refine feature articles, which will be published on TechBuzz and Silicon Slopes platforms.
- Networking: Attend industry events, build connections, and gain insights into the tech community.
Learning Outcomes:
- Develop skills in business journalism and technical writing.
- Gain familiarity with Utah’s tech sector and its key players.
- Build a professional portfolio with published articles.
Key Deliverables:
- Publish 1-2 feature articles per month (approx. 1,000 words each).
- Collaborate on a group project.
- Submit mid-term and final reports.
Qualifications:
- Current enrollment in a Utah college or university.
- Strong writing, research, and communication skills.
- Interest in technology and business journalism.
