The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) is seeking enthusiastic applicants for our Community Engagement Events Intern positions!

You will play a vital role in our team as we participate in a wide range of community events and outreach initiatives that foster public engagement and strengthen partnerships within our service area. This internship offers the exciting opportunity to contribute to your community while gaining valuable professional experience. As a Community Engagement Intern, you will also have the chance to design and implement a continuous improvement project aimed at making a positive impact within our department.

As a Community Engagement Events Intern, you will:

  • Collaborate with the Community Engagement Events team to plan, coordinate, and execute meaningful UTA participation in various community events and outreach opportunities.
  • Represent UTA at events throughout the service area, including managing event logistics such as facilitating supplies, setting up, and taking down.
  • Support the recruitment of internal volunteers for events and outreach initiatives.
  • Maintain an organized inventory of all event-related supplies.
  • Actively listen to community members to identify their transportation issues and needs and effectively communicate these insights internally within UTA.
  • Promote and encourage community use of public transit and foster a sense of system stewardship and ownership through outreach, education, and engagement activities.
  • Be responsible for and assist in communicating and working with Community Partners and other external organizations.
  • Participate in system navigation trainings to gain a comprehensive understanding of UTA systems and job expectations.
  • Manage multiple tasks simultaneously, including active participation in events, dedicated work on your continuous improvement project, and other daily responsibilities.

This will be a part-time internship, requiring availability for 20-29 hours per week, including evening and significant weekend work, particularly during the fall season when most community events occur.
 
The internship is expected to last approximately 4-6 months. Interns should be self-motivated and capable of working independently, including the ability to work without direct supervision.

Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSES

  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university.
  • Must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0. (A transcript of grades and two letters of recommendation are required upon application.)
  • Previous experience in community outreach and event planning and implementation is highly desirable.
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish languages (or another language) is strongly preferred.
  • A valid and active state driver’s license is preferred but not strictly required.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

  • Demonstrated experience and skills in public relations and customer service.
  • Understanding of community engagement principles, public involvement techniques, planning methodologies, or related expertise.
  • A proactive and enthusiastic approach to new challenges and opportunities.
  • A genuine interest in how transportation and transit can positively impact people’s quality of life, and enjoyment of meeting and interacting with people from various backgrounds.
  • Strong community-mindedness with a demonstrated interest in working with and effectively communicating with diverse communities.
  • Highly reliable and self-directed with the ability to take initiative.
  • Great organization skills.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate with empathy, kindness, and respect, and to de-escalate potentially challenging situations in a professional manner.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Word is preferred.
  • Ability to lift and carry event supplies, which may occasionally weigh up to 50 pounds.

Pay Rate: $18.858 Per Hour

Online Learning Technical Writing Internship

The Online Learning Technical Writing Intern plays a vital role in assisting users of online Seminary, Institute, and BYU Pathway religion courses. Support is provided through email, support tickets, and occasional virtual conference calls. The intern also contributes to writing, revising, and proofreading communications sent to Seminary and Institute employees worldwide.
