OIT Student Technical Writer

The User Experience Team of the Office of Information Technology is seeking to hire skilled and responsible students as Technical Writers. Our writers edit content for grammar and tone, write and deliver product documentation, take meeting notes, collect action items, and otherwise assist in product development. Technical Writers are advocates for the needs of the customer, and are a critical piece in facilitating effective communication with our users.

You should be willing to work 15-20 hrs/week during fall and winter terms and 20-35 hrs/week during spring and summer terms. Preference will be given to applicants who are graduating December 2024 or later. A minimum commitment of 2 semesters is required.

*The User Experience Team is currently working a hybrid schedule of Remote and In-Office work. Students will set their schedule around their classes and other commitments.

Essential Functions of Student Technical Writers (You will be trained on these topics)

- User research
- Style guides
- Surveys and data analysis
- Analytics graphics (Lucid Charts)
- Document design
- Project documentation including user stories, journeys, and requirements
- Agile project management

Required Qualifications: 

- Experience editing and revising in a professional manner
- Able to work both in teams and independently
- Working knowledge of English grammar and style guides
- Skilled at receiving and implementing feedback
- Fabulous people skills
- Comfortable using computers, cloud storage and apps
- Quickly learns new software and products

UX/UI Designer

The User Experience Team of the Office of Information Technology is seeking to hire skilled and responsible students as User Experience Designers. We are offering a great opportunity to do real work that will benefit BYU and grow your portfolio. We need team members that we can trust to do thorough research and create user-centered designs. We desire student employees who support the Mission of BYU and can work independently in a professional and trustworthy manner. All majors are welcome; however, we are looking for applicants with an interest in user experience and design. You will be trained to do quality UX work.

You should be willing to work 15-20 hrs/week during fall and winter terms and 20-35 hrs/week during spring and summer terms. Preference will be given to applicants who are graduating December 2024 or later. A minimum commitment of 2 semesters is needed.
