The Community Outreach Internship provides an excellent opportunity for students to learn about the internal organization and operations of the Mayor’s Office. This job is designed to provide students with paid professional experience to further their education and training and is academically oriented for the student’s benefit. To qualify students must be enrolled in an accredited school program related to the type of work they are expected to perform. Positions will terminate upon completion of the internship period. Incumbents may deal with confidential information, which is expected to be maintained as confidential and shared only on a need-to-know basis with city employees and elsewhere when authorized by the intern’s designated city supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Support in planning and execution of community events
  • Event Planning & Community Engagement: Support in planning and execution of community events like workshops, cleanups, and public forums, managing logistics and outreach activities such as canvassing and tabling to build connections.
  • Volunteer Coordination: Recruit, train, and manage volunteers for Love Your Block and Mayor’s SLC Corps, tracking participation and contributions for reporting.
  • Research & Data Collection: Conduct research to assess community needs and program impact, analyzing data to guide improvements.
  • Special Projects & Support: Assist with special projects, propose creative solutions, organize materials, manage inventory, and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Other Duties as Assigned

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university. Summer internships may not require concurrent enrollment if the student is in good standing with the educational institution.
  • Prior experience facilitating group activities or working with volunteers.
  • Must have reliable transportation to varying job sites across the City.
  • Excellent problem-solving, interpersonal skills, and troubleshooting abilities.
  • A growth mindset and passion for learning.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Interest in government affairs, local politics, and community outreach.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Ability to flex communication style to multiple cultural environments
  • Multi-lingual
