Research Intern - AI, Cybersecurity, and Cloud Computing Newsletters

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Intern to join our dynamic team and play a crucial role in the launch of three exciting new newsletters. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the fast-paced world of tech journalism and contribute to newsletters reaching a wide audience of tech professionals. The research Intern will support our newsletter writers by conducting thorough research, identifying key trends, and contributing to the overall editorial process.

What you’ll do:

  • Conduct in-depth research on current events, emerging trends, and relevant topics within the AI, Cybersecurity, and Cloud Computing fields.
  • Identify and curate relevant articles, reports, blog posts, and other sources of information for inclusion in the newsletters.
  • Summarize and synthesize complex information into concise and easy-to-understand formats.
  • Assist newsletter writers in developing compelling and informative content.
  • From time to time, write short articles or sections of the newsletters.
  • Participate in editorial meetings, contributing ideas and insights.
  • Maintain organized research databases and ensure accuracy of information.
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest developments and trends in the respective technology areas.

Experience you’ll bring:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Journalism, Communications, Computer Science, Information Security, or related fields.
  • Strong interest and understanding of AI, Cybersecurity, and/or Cloud Computing.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills, with the ability to quickly and accurately gather information from various sources.
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in using online research tools and databases.

Bonus Points:

  • Previous experience in research, writing, or journalism.
  • Familiarity with content management systems (CMS).
  • Active participation in online tech communities or forums.
  • Experience with writing newsletters.

The Community Outreach Internship provides an excellent opportunity for students to learn about the internal organization and operations of the Mayor’s Office. This job is designed to provide students with paid professional experience to further their education and training and is academically oriented for the student’s benefit. To qualify students must be enrolled in an accredited school program related to the type of work they are expected to perform. Positions will terminate upon completion of the internship period. Incumbents may deal with confidential information, which is expected to be maintained as confidential and shared only on a need-to-know basis with city employees and elsewhere when authorized by the intern’s designated city supervisor.
