This internship is designed for writing and publishing students with an interest in the world of traditional publishing, literary agents, aspiring authors, networking, and writing a compelling story for commercial, social, and technical platform development.

You’ll help LitArc communicate clearly and creatively with writers, agents, and publishing-curious readers through strong content around publishing. You’ll also build practical, portfolio-ready writing samples in a mission-driven, fast-moving environment.

Responsibilities

A young and small startup business has a need for help in many areas. Team members all tend to wear many hats. An intern’s first job will be to understand the business on a high level and some of the work we need to do. Your second job is to work with the team to select projects that are valuable to the business and that you are most interested in and able to perform. Some possibilities include the following.

Writing and Editorial

● Help develop a voice, tone, style, structure, and editorial policies for LItArc, LLC on the web
● Improve the website for search engine optimization (SEO)
● Write valuable content for target users such as aspiring authors, literary agents, acquisition editors
● Write and organize the LitArc blog and/or newsletter
● Write short-form content for social channels
● Develop educational, training, insights, and other help for our customers and future customers
● General copywriting for website copy, landing pages, app microcopy, onboarding sequences, FAQs, and help-center articles
● Help customers learn how to use LitArc

Industry Research and Customer Discovery

● Provide LitArc platform user experience (UX) testing and advice
● Contribute to brainstorming how LitArc can help customers and grow as a business
● Track LitArc content performance
● Track trends in traditional publishing
● Discover SEO and marketing strategies
● Identify customers and partners that would fit the LitArc story
● Interview literary agents, authors, editors, etc.
● Gather pain points and existing solutions in writing and traditional publishing
● Assemble a list of resources for our customers such as dates and other details of writer conferences

Required Qualifications

● Junior or senior undergraduate (or equivalent experience) in writing, editing, publishing, english, communications, journalism, or related fields
● Strong writing fundamentals: voice, structure, clarity, grammar, and revision discipline without the use or assistance of AI
● Some interest and familiarity with the traditional publishing environment and the query process
● Comfortable working semi-independently; receiving feedback, edits, and collaborating asynchronously using Google Docs, Discord chat, Google video meetings
● Ability to dedicate 10 hours per week on a flexible schedule with solid blocks of time without distractions
● Must have reliable internet access and computer already
● Ability to meet deadlines
● Work authorization in Utah, USA

Recommended Qualifications

● Writing strength, coachability, and reliability, solely on experience.
● Experience running a campus lit mag, blog, Substack, or writing community.
● Familiarity with query letters, synopses, comps, or agent research (not required).
● Basic SEO familiarity or willingness to learn.
● Interviewing experience (email Q&A counts)
● Familiarity with old and new technologies including generative AI and an understanding of when and how to use it (e.g. use AI for research with verification, not relying on it to generate final drafts of content)

Details

Level: Undergraduate juniors/seniors (or recent grads within ~12 months)
Time Commitment: ~10 dedicated hours/week per intern
Format: Remote-first, with optional in-person meetups if local to Utah County, Utah
Duration: 8–12 weeks preferred; can align with semester/quarter schedules
Reports to: Co-founding team with weekly 30-45 min check ins on Google meet; async work and communications over Discord chat
Compensation: $15+ per hour ($18+ for significant relevant experience). Academic credit might be possible depending on the intern’s interest level and our planning lead time required.

LitArc (litarc.co) is a brand new online platform that helps aspiring authors connect with literary agents and to potentially help literary agents with their unique tasks and workflow, including their interaction with publishers and editors. It was founded in Utah in 2025 by team members living in Utah and California with startup business and technology experience – and a strong interest in writing and publishing.
