Y Magazine—BYU’s flagship publication for alumni, students, and friends of the university—offers paid editing internships for students who are creative, teachable, hard working, dependable, and committed to working as entry-level journalists. Y Magazine interns get published, work in a professional environment, and learn what it takes to produce a quality magazine from start to finish.
Internship openings are available beginning spring term 2026. Generally, we prefer our interns to stay at least two semesters (or a semester and two terms).
Responsibilities
- Write news articles and profiles
- Conduct interviews and cover campus events
- Edit and proofread text
- Contribute story ideas
- Fact-check and do other research
- Coordinate photography and gather art
- Create magazine web communications
Requirements
- Solid writing skills
- Basic knowledge of news writing/reporting
- Substantive editing skills—deeper than proofreading/copyediting
- Familiarity with Chicago and/or AP style
- BYU student status for the duration of the
- internship

- Up to 20 hours per week, flexible schedule
