During the 2025 Utah Legislative Session, I was the intern for Representative Christofferson (D-53). I tracked his bills, organized meetings, and handled most of his correspondence. Throughout those seven weeks, I communicated with thousands of constituents across the state. These interactions taught me so much about writing professionally and acting with intention!
I would highly recommend this internship, even for those who are intimidated by politics—I was the same way. Because of this experience, I am able to confidently navigate policies and fluently discuss them. More importantly, it helped me realize and solidify my future goals. The USL internship truly allows you to practice what you learn in school. Your skills become truly tangible and you can see your impact in real-time.
My advice: being an English major makes you stand out. Embrace it! This internship is really about human connection, compromise, and transmitting clear information. If you understand the value of words, you will do just fine. I also recommend making friends with the interns from other schools. This is one of the rare opportunities to meet diverse people that share your goals and interests.
