English Internships

The Kepner Agency is excited to offer a dynamic and educational internship program designed for individuals aspiring to enter the fascinating world of book publishing. Under the mentorship of Chris Kepner, a seasoned literary agent with over 15 years of experience, successful candidates will gain invaluable insights into the publishing industry, refine their skills, and build a foundation for a rewarding career in this field. This unpaid internship program is designed to provide a comprehensive learning experience and course credit in coordination with the candidate’s educational institution.

Want to kick off your professional career in a meaningful way? Each year, Brookings provides paid internships to nearly 150 degree-seeking students, and occasionally to recent graduates, with internship cohorts available every spring, summer, and fall. Internships are available in our five research programs (Governance Studies, Economic Studies, Foreign Policy, Global Economy and Development, and Brookings Metro) and in our business units (e.g., communications, finance, human resources). Under the direction of the Department of Public Lands communications manager, the intern will work alongside the Communications and Community Engagement team to provide communications-related support.

As part of the 2026 English Symposium, seven students shared their experiences completing the English+ requirement.

During the 2025 Utah Legislative Session, I was the intern for Representative Christofferson (D-53). I tracked his bills, organized meetings, and handled most of his correspondence. Throughout those seven weeks, I communicated with thousands of constituents across the state. These interactions taught me so much about writing professionally and acting with intention!

I worked primarily in the Trust's archive, responding to research enquiries, assisting with collections management, and doing independent research. Other tasks included assisting with public tours in Dove Cottage and working with outreach groups, such as universities on study abroad, during their visits to the Trust.
