Rising Star Outreach is a NonProfit Organization based in Provo, Utah. Our mission is to help leprosy colonies become thriving, self-sufficient communities.

We are accomplishing this through three major initiatives:

  • Economic rehabilitation through micro-grants.
  • Providing medical care through mobile medical clinics.
  • Educating children by providing opportunities to become productive citizens of India.

STARS Internship – PR/Communications/Writing

Position start date/end date: Start May 17, 2021 – Aug 31, 2021, with the possibility of being hired

Location: Partly in Provo, UT otherwise Remote

Description of Job Duties: 

The STARS Program, Sponsor To A Rising Star, matches donors to students from a leprosy colony or a neighboring impoverished village to help them receive a quality education. This program helps these children gain the education and skills necessary to empower themselves and their communities.

We are looking for a highly dedicated and driven individual who loves outreach, communications and writing and will help promote and grow the STARS program in every possible way.

Some Responsibilities include:

  • Create content for the STARS instagram page & other social media accounts
  • Help recruit potential donors to the STARS program
  • Reach out to nonprofit specific podcasts, influencers, community magazines
  • Reach out to nonprofit management professors and sociology professors and schedule appointments to showcase the STARS program
  • Assist in writing and sending press releases for the STARS program
  • Help write the STARS newsletter (once a month)
  • Write bios for new students in the STARS program
  • Help write and update email templates
  • Help package donor boxes for STARS program

Grant Research and Development Internship

Position start date/end date: May 17, 2021 – Aug 31, 2021 ***willing to work around your schedule if the right fit***

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • An ability to work independently to execute tasks, while seeking support and feedback as appropriate
  • Strong research and writing skills

Description of Job Duties: 

We are looking for a highly dedicated and driven individual who loves outreach, communications and writing and will promote Rising Star Outreach by expanding our funding through grant research and writing.

Some Responsibilities include:

  • Research potential funders to identify and prioritize applications
  • Create and maintain a grant calendar detailing application deadlines and tasks
  • Contact grant providers for additional information and nonprofits that may offer grants but do not advertise it
  • Write grants and fill out applications
  • Consult with the Director of Development to submit grant drafts and then edit them
  • Strategize and present ideas to maximize funding from all potential funding sources, including grants, individual donations and other opportunities

2023 AFC Folklife Internship (Paid, Library of Congress)

This program offers participants insights into the environment and activities of the American Folklife Center, which pairs robust cultural programming with the world's largest ethnographic archive. Interns will be exposed to a broad spectrum of public programs and archives work: artist liaison, production, preservation, reference, access standards, and information management. Depending on the specific project they are assigned, interns will assist staff with coordinating and producing public programs; archival processing of special collections in many different formats; managing digital outreach activities and communications; or supporting reference and research activities. Near the end of their appointment at the Library, the interns will reflect on their projects and experiences by producing a blog post, as well as a presentation for AFC staff.

National Geographic Summer Internships (Remote)

Every year, the National Geographic Society provides a number of students with a paid opportunity to spend the summer exploring and learning with us. We offer a diverse range of dynamic internships that are designed to offer a well-rounded experience. Our goal is to provide engaging, educational, and work-related opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students. The 2023 program will be remote. Students will be invited to our DC headquarters one week in June to attend one of our signature events.
