Are you passionate about helping others and managing programs that benefit your community? The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) wants you to apply to be our Community Engagement Intern.  We, as a strong servant of the Greater Utah community, participate in a variety of community engagements and outreach that encourages public participation and build community partnerships for our agency.

As a Community Engagement Intern, you will:

  • Collaborate with the Engagement team and other UTA departments to plan, develop, and implement innovative, inclusive, and effective community engagement opportunities to ensure transit solutions are informed by and work well for the community.
  • Develop and supports public engagement activities that are inclusive, representative, and provide an opportunity for communities to have a voice in transit planning and decision-making.
  • Collaborate with the Engagement team to plan and implement meaningful UTA participation in events and outreach opportunities. Provide support and UTA representation at events throughout the service area, to include facilitating event supplies, set-up, and take-down.
  • Support internal and external volunteer recruitment for events and outreach opportunities.
  • Maintain inventory of event supplies.
  • Identify transportation issues and needs of the community and works to represent those needs internally at UTA.
  • Promote and support community use of transit and system stewardship and ownership through outreach, education, and engagement.
  • Develop short and long-term engagement goals in collaboration with team.

This will be a part-time internship, with a schedule of 20 hours/week. It is expected to last roughly 6-8 months.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • Junior or senior level student currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, seeking an undergraduate degree in Communications, Sociology, Community Health, or a related field. 
  • Must have at least a 3.0 GPA.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrated experience/skills in public relations and customer service. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Outlook and Word preferred.
  • Experience with Call Center monitoring and social media platforms preferred.
  • Must submit a transcript of grades and two letters of recommendation.

Community Outreach Internship

The Community Outreach Internship provides an excellent opportunity for students to learn about the internal organization and operations of the Mayor’s Office. This job is designed to provide students with paid professional experience to further their education and training and is academically oriented for the student’s benefit. To qualify students must be enrolled in an accredited school program related to the type of work they are expected to perform. Positions will terminate upon completion of the internship period. Incumbents may deal with confidential information, which is expected to be maintained as confidential and shared only on a need-to-know basis with city employees and elsewhere when authorized by the intern’s designated city supervisor.
