National Geographic Summer Internships (Remote)

National Geographic Logo

Every year, the National Geographic Society provides a number of students with a paid opportunity to spend the summer exploring and learning with us. We offer a diverse range of dynamic internships that are designed to offer a well-rounded experience. Our goal is to provide engaging, educational, and work-related opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students. The 2023 program will be remote. Students will be invited to our DC headquarters one week in June to attend one of our signature events.

Throughout the program, you will receive support and guidance from a wide array of National Geographic staff as you explore what it is like to help us achieve our mission to illuminate and protect the wonder of our world.

KEY DATES:
Application period: January 20, 2023 - March 3, 2023
Start date: June 5, 2023
End date: August 11, 2023

Intern, Strategic Communications

National Geographic Society is seeking an intern to join our Strategic Communications team. This intern will have the opportunity to learn and engage with both the internal and external aspects of strategic communications, including planning and executing events and communications strategies for staff (internal) and creating communications materials, including key messages, media pitches, and social media content (external). Our ideal candidate is highly motivated, thinks creatively, and is a skillful writer.

Intern, Curriculum Innovation

The National Geographic Education team is looking for an intern to work on creating curricular content for educators and students. The intern will help conduct research and other tasks to support the creation of elementary, middle, and high school educational materials to be included in the Resource Library. There is also the opportunity to work on special projects associated with cross-EDU and cross-NGS synergy programs and operations (like focus area projects in Oceans, Land, Wildlife, Human History & Culture, and Human Ingenuity - or projects with National Geographic Partners/Disney).

Intern, Strategic Partnerships, Grants, and Explorer-Educator Connections

The National Geographic Society is seeking an intern to join and support the Strategic Partnerships, Grants, and Explorer-Educator Connections team, as part of the broader Education team, in its efforts to build an ecosystem of globally diverse partners, Education-focused Explorers, and experiences. The Education team aims to amplify and extend a robust Explorer-led and Explorer-centered portfolio that cultivates an Explorer Mindset, expands the Explorer pipeline, and advances Explorers’ impact and work. The Intern will assist in achieving our goals and DEI commitments by providing research, programmatic, and logistical support while gaining experience in identifying and cultivating global partnerships, supporting Explorer educator connections and grantmaking opportunities, conducting due diligence research, and gaining an understanding of the global educational landscape.
