The BYU Office of the General Counsel provides legal counsel to BYU, BYU–Hawaii, BYU–Idaho and Ensign College. We are looking for candidates for the position of Legal Project Assistant who are committed to BYU and its mission, and who have excellent research, writing, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with a preference for those who have worked in a professional office setting. The Legal Project Assistant position assists the Senior Paralegal and attorneys with various projects and tasks. Employees are expected to act appropriately and professionally in all interactions, as well as maintain strict confidentiality.

Job Title: Legal Project Assistant

Description:

  • Assist with special projects
  • Perform basic research
  • Assist in maintaining document management system (iManage)
  • Assist in reviewing archived records and legal documents and applying records retention schedule
  • Assist in maintaining and updating legal invoice system
  • Assist in capturing evidence for cases
  • Reviewing and proofreading documents
  • Scan and file documents
  • Complete other assignments as required

Qualifications:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Proficient with Adobe Acrobat DC
  • Should demonstrate a high level of professionalism, good interpersonal skills and ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Well organized with attention to detail a must
  • Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills, including use of proper grammar and punctuation
  • Self-motivated and ability to learn quickly
  • Excellent customer service skills, both in person and on the telephone
  • Dependability (arrive at work on time, focus on work at hand, consistent in performance)
  • Previous professional office experience preferred
  • Should be available to work Spring and Summer terms, preferably full time.
  • Should be available to work 15-20 hours per week during Fall and Winter semesters.

Contract and Compliance Internships (part-time and full-time)

The mission of this position is to help Church members fulfill their divinely appointed responsibility to discover their families through family history methods, submit their names to the temple for saving ordinances, and to help bring souls unto Christ. This is an entry-level internship designed to train and assess new candidates’ aptitude for the level of uncertainty, complexity, and detail required in working with contracts and data privacy laws. Successful candidates will be able to understand legal concepts and how to monitor compliance, systematize requirements of routine contracts, laws, and policies, and create project tracking tools.
