Y Magazine—BYU’s quarterly publication for alumni, students, and friends of the university—offers paid editorial internships for students who are creative, teachable, hard working, dependable, and committed to working as entry-level journalists. Interns at Y Magazine get published, work in a professional atmosphere, and get experience in writing, editing, research, web publishing, social media, and some of the backend, business aspects of putting out a magazine. It’s a varied and fun opportunity.

Internship openings are available immediately. Generally, we prefer our interns to stay at least two semesters (or a semester and two terms).

• $15.50 per hour
• 20 hours per week, flexible schedule
• Internship credit available

• Submit a cover letter, résumé, and three writing samples (writing with voice preferred) to peter_gardner@byu.edu.

• Finalists will be called back for writing / editing tests and interviews.

• Deadline: Sept. 11, 2023

Requirements

• Solid writing skills
• Basic knowledge of news writing/reporting
• Substantive editing skills—deeper than proofreading/copyediting
• Familiarity with Chicago and/or AP style
• BYU student status for the duration of the internship

Responsibilities

• Write news articles and profiles
• Conduct interviews and cover campus events
• Edit and proofread text
• Contribute story ideas
• Fact-check and do other research
• Coordinate photography and gather art
• Create magazine web communications

Fall 2024 Norton Publishing Internships (Paid, Remote Options)

W. W. Norton & Company’s 12-week internship program is designed to introduce motivated college students and recent graduates to publishing and to Norton. Internships provide valuable hands-on experience with the day-to-day business of bookmaking, as well as opportunities to network with employees at the company and with fellow interns who frequently go on to become colleagues in the field.
