Student Writer/Producer for BYUradio's Kaboom Podcast

BYU Kaboom.png

We are looking for writers with a flair for creating original stories that appeal to the whole family to join the staff of BYUradio's audio drama podcast Kaboom: An Audio Adventure Podcast. The team is organized like a TV writer's room, so we are especially looking for writers who thrive in a collaborative setting.

We are looking for students who can start work during the summer and then continue into the school year.

Student producers will: Pitch ideas, develop treatments, write scripts, offer feedback on other team members' scripts in a writer's room environment, and support production on audio dramas in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

  • Work independently and as a team member in creating original content programming for web, broadcast, and podcast platforms.
  • Actively participate in writers' room sessions to contribute ideas and help polish scripts by fellow writing team members.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally to ensure quality production of show content.
  • Assist in promotion of programs.
  • Assist with the development of new storytelling-focused podcasts.
  • Occasionally assist with events put on by The Apple Seed, another BYUradio podcast that shares a producing team with Kaboom.
  • While being hired for a specific production need, the needs of BYUradio may change and there may be other opportunities for other types of production.

Job Qualifications: Students with excellent interpersonal skills, great writing skills, a good head for organization, a knack for storytelling, an ability to collaborate, and an interest in audio production make the best candidates. Applicants must coordinate school and work schedules to fill a regular shift to meet daily and weekly broadcast deadlines.

How to apply: Interested students should send a resume, cover letter, and writing sample to Brian Tanner at brian.tanner@byu.edu. Writing sample should be a short piece of fiction (preferably in script form but prose is also acceptable) that demonstrates your ability to engage a tween/teen audience as well as their parents.

*Many on-campus student jobs can qualify for internship credit. Contact the internship coordinator (trina_harding@byu.edu) to learn more.
