Job summary:

A policy research internship at Sutherland Institute is a 20-hour-per-week, paid position. Policy research interns conduct research on relevant public policy issues under the supervision of Sutherland Institute’s policy fellows. The internship will run through the semester beginning in January 2026.

Job duties include: 

  • Quantitative and qualitative research and data analysis in policy areas such as education policy, religious freedom and family policy
  • Assisting fellows in producing written and visual content based on policy research
  • Assisting with events or legislative efforts as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: 

  • Interest in public policy and/or non-profit organizations
  • Interest in making a career in public policy research
  • Current college student or recent graduate
  • Strong writing, editing and verbal communication skills

___________________________________________________________________________________________ Interns with a strong work ethic, an attitude that elevates the success of the project over personal ambition, and who are a good fit for a center-right public policy research organization may be considered for a full-time policy research position at the conclusion of the internship. ___________________________________________________________________________________________

Position start: September 2025

Hours per week: Flexible, 20 hrs/week

Wage/salary: This is a paid internship based on experience and availability

Location: Sutherland’s office is located in downtown Salt Lake City. The combination of in-office and remote work for policy research interns will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

CLOSED Online Learning Technical Writing Internship

The Online Learning Technical Writing Intern plays a vital role in assisting users of online Seminary, Institute, and BYU Pathway religion courses. Support is provided through email, support tickets, and occasional virtual conference calls. The intern also contributes to writing, revising, and proofreading communications sent to Seminary and Institute employees worldwide. Additionally, they help develop and proofread technical resources for both internal and external audiences. The intern supports various projects assigned by the Course Support Coordinator.
