The Deseret News is hiring a newsletter intern to work in tandem with the Newsletter Editor to help coordinate and send our portfolio of 15+ newsletters. As the closest digital product to a daily newspaper, newsletters are an editorial project that helps readers find the important news they need to know. This role combines the news judgement of journalism with the pragmatism of audience and marketing work. The person in this role will report to the Newsletter Editor and work closely with that individual on a day-to-day basis.
If you are an up-and-coming digital news innovator, Deseret News wants you to join our internship program. This is a full-time position starting around May 2, 2022.
You will:
- Coordinate with journalists across different departments to produce newsletters that highlight Deseret News content in the best way
- Learn the ins and outs of customer service as you respond to readers
- Monitor analytics to identify trends and opportunities
- Become proficient in a leading newsletter and CRM platform (Hubspot) as well as industry best practices
You are the right fit if you:
- Have a Bachelor's degree in communication, journalism, English, business or marketing (or are working on it)
- Insist upon accuracy and excellence

- Are patient with tech and can troubleshoot issues and things out of the ordinary

- Know Associated Press style and Utah culture, history, sports and politics
Pay and related details
Deseret News internships are paid ($14/hour) and last approximately 4-6 months (one semester) in duration. Full-time (40 hours per week) and part-time (16-24 hours per week) internships are available with Deseret News with some flexibility to work with class schedules. Interns will work with their supervising editors to determine exact starting and ending dates, and weekly work schedules. If time off during the semester is needed, that must be coordinated well in advance with the supervising editor.
