College of Engineering News Writer

Position summary: As the News Writer for the Ira A. Fulton College of Engineering, you will anxiously uncover news and "happenings" within the College to create written content for the College and its associated departments' websites. In this position, you will be part of a communications team and report to the Communications Manager.

Primary duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Creating eye-catching and relevant news stories for the College website 
  • Managing and pursuing news lead submissions 
  • Helping maintain website content including articles, College information, and events 
  • Managing website article analytics 
  • Researching and interviewing
  • Gathering visual content or working with design team to supplement written material 
  • Constantly brainstorming and "sniffing out" new story ideas

BYU Marriott Public Relations Writer

The award-winning marketing, communications, and technology team at the BYU Marriott School of Business is looking for students with excellent writing skills to join its staff. Positions are open for Spring/Summer term and Fall semester.

Students will not just be given assignments, they will be mentored one-on-one with seasoned communications professionals. They will have the opportunity to interface with inspiring faculty, students, alumni, and other friends of the school to tell stories through their writing and create a portfolio of work to showcase for future employers.

Daily responsibilities include writing and editing stories for a wide variety of media outlets (news releases, features, newsletters, annual reports, and Marriott Alumni Magazine) as well as advising on content for digital channels (social media and websites).

This is the perfect position for dynamic students looking for hands-on communications experience (can count for PR/journalism internship credit). Prospective candidates should be enthusiastic, organized, and creative self-starters.
