The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Logo Image

The General Publications editing staff edits all Church publications except the magazines. These publications include manuals, handbooks, pamphlets, programs, and other documents sponsored by Church departments. Staff members also edit material that is posted on Church websites and mobile applications.

The General Publications editing section offers internships three times a year—from January through April (winter), from May through August (summer), and from September through December (fall). These are hourly paid internships that typically require working 40 hours per week. Currently, the editing section is hiring for its winter 2023 internships. An applicant for these internships must be enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited college or university—or must have finished a degree from an accredited college or university within six months of applying for the internship.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Interns on the General Publications editing staff work with writers, designers, and other editors to help produce these materials. Under the guidance of full-time editors, they work on several projects at a time and seek to ensure the highest level of quality.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants who are (1) enrolled in a language-related master’s degree program, (2) completing an editing major or minor, or (3) taking classes with an editing emphasis are preferred. Other qualifications include:

• At least one semester of college-level editing experience, such as for a journal, in a writing lab, or as a professor's assistant.
• Strong writing, revising, copyediting, and proofreading skills.
• Strong computer skills, with experience in InDesign desired.
• Sound understanding of Church doctrine, history, organization, and policy.
• The ability to manage many projects simultaneously.
