Application Deadline: Nov. 12, 2021

Salary: $15/hour

Participation in a college journalism program is preferred, but not required. We are looking for those who wish to pursue a career in journalism.

As an intern covering the Utah Legislature, you will spend time at the Capitol, listen in on meetings, reach out to legislators for comment and find documents. Interns will write stories, contribute to The Tribune’s newsletters and pitch in with production on podcasts.

Excellent writing and research skills are a must; audio experience would be nice. Candidates should have a basic understanding of news standards and ethics, and experience in publishing journalism. You should be able to meet deadlines, report thoroughly, write clearly and grasp the elements of storytelling. You must understand balance in journalism and impartiality in reporting.

Your assignment may include night or weekend work. We will provide onboarding training as well as informational sessions with newsroom staff.

All interns are paid $15/hour. We provide evaluations and assessments of interns’ performance should they be required for the funding and/or school credit.

The Tribune considers all candidates without regard to basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, marital status, sexual orientation, ancestry, medical condition, family care status, pregnancy or physical disability (except where physical fitness is a valid occupational qualification), or any other basis protected by state and federal laws.

To apply for an internship at The Tribune, please send a cover letter, three writing samples and your resume to editor Rachel Crosby at rcrosby@sltrib.com. Please include links to relevant work or your portfolio. We will follow up with you accordingly. Please, no calls.
