Washington DC Internships, Fall 2023

We have a few great internship opportunities for BYU students this fall in Washington, DC. These internships should work with the Washington Seminar program, so please note that will be a resource as well. Washington Seminar BYU Information

1. United Nations (UN) is accepting applications for their Fall internship program in Washington, DC.

All interested applicants must apply online at the career homepage of the United Nations.

https://careers.un.org/lbw/jobdetail.aspx?id=211351&Lang=en-US

2. The Media Research Center is actively recruiting conservative students and recent graduates for fall internships (September 11th - December 1st). The Fall 2023 program will take place in person providing hands-on experience to young conservatives who are interested in a career in the movement. The MRC's mission is to document and combat the falsehoods and censorship of the news media, entertainment media and Big Tech in order to defend and preserve America's founding principles and Judeo-Christian values. MRC interns contribute to the MRC like employees, and some of their recent work has been picked up by Senator Cruz, Michael Knowles, and Dan Bongino. Internships are offered in news analysis, journalism, video editing, development and fundraising, graphic design, IT/Tech, and more! Please visit mrc.org/internships/, for more information. Contact Cari Lancaster at clancaster@mrc.org for all inquiries.

3. International Rescue Committee, Silver Spring. The ability to work in-person is required.

I’ve listed the titles and a brief description of each internship below. You can find the full description by going to https://rescue.csod.com/ats/careersite/search.aspx?site=1&c=rescue and filtering by City (Silver Spring) and Employee Category (Intern). Prospective interns will use that link to apply. We strongly encourage interested applicants to apply for more than one program. If you want professional, hands-on experience working with refugees, asylees, & trafficking victims, apply to be an intern with the IRC in Silver Spring!

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) was founded at the behest of Albert Einstein in 1933 to assist people fleeing from persecution. Since then, the IRC has grown and works all over the world providing humanitarian support. In Silver Spring, the IRC works with refugees the moment they step off the plane to help them get situated and become self-sufficient members of their new community.

IRC internships give interns the opportunity to work directly with refugees to teach them or help them accomplish tasks needed to live successfully in the US. We offer 12 unique internships that offer a wide variety of opportunities to develop different skills and gain experience including:

  • Anti-Trafficking/Intensive Case Management
  • Career Development
  • Economic Empowerment
  • Refugee Employment and Skill-Building
  • Refugee Employment Coordination
  • Gender Equity
  • Immigration
  • Intake
  • Refugee Resettlement
  • Youth Program

Most internships require a minimum of 15 to 20 hours per week. All selected interns will need to undergo and clear a background check and reference check to intern. We ask that you make a $30 donation to help us cover the associated costs. Currently, 87% of our funding goes directly to programming to support our clients, and your help to cover this cost will ensure that no funding is directed away from serving our clients. Instructions will be provided after you have been selected to intern or volunteer.

The ability to work in-person is required.

Internships with the International Rescue Committee in Silver Spring are unpaid. School credit may be received depending on your program and institution. For information on scholarship opportunities, contact your university or the IRC Silver Spring intern coordinator at Kyle.Monsees@Rescue.org.
