The Utah State Board of Education Deputy Superintendent of Policy is looking for a Legislative intern to contribute and provide support with various tasks during the 2024 Utah State Legislative General Session (Session). The USBE Legislative Intern is expected to work in person at the Utah State Capitol most days during the Session.

The intern will work directly with the Deputy Superintendent of Policy and Policy Advisor to monitor and track legislation for the Utah State Board of Education and support other Session related duties as needed.

Principal Duties

  • Attend committee meetings
  • Monitor and track public education related legislation 
  • Support State Board weekly legislative meetings 
  • Communicate with USBE staff on behalf of the Deputy Superintendent and Policy Advisor 
  • Conduct research related to bills and Board fiscal requests 
  •  Analyze, review and summarize data, report findings, and interpret results 
  • Schedule and/or coordinate appointments, meetings, facilities, meals, equipment, etc. 

Typical Qualifications

In addition to demonstrating a high degree of flexibility and diplomacy in a professional environment, applicants must have a variety of skills:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite, including OneNote 
  • Experience working in a professional office setting 
  • Must be able to work extended hours (40+ hours) beginning January 16 to March 1, 2024
    (Extending dates beyond the stated dates is negotiable) with a preferred start date of January 8, 2024.

Salary: $18.00 Hourly
