
Tesla is seeking a Technical Writing intern who will help conceptualize, design, manage, and create documents that play a key role in the success of many different teams. The intern will work with engineers, technicians, project managers, and other writers to gather information, formulate content, and review the final product with various stakeholders.
This role includes the opportunity to interact with, and contribute to the improvement of, multiple aspects of documentation that facilitate a seamless technical publications lifecycle. Documents that the intern will work on will have multiple audiences, from technicians to engineers to account managers to customers, and there will be opportunities to write documents for multiple cutting-edge Energy products that directly contribute to the world’s acceleration to sustainable energy.
- Write, edit, validate, and publish comprehensive documents such as installation manuals, service manuals, datasheets, commissioning guides, software walk-throughs, etc.
- Effectively collaborate and build strong working relationships with subject matter experts such as engineers, technicians, and product managers to ensure alignment on programs/projects/priorities, and that all content is accurate and approved
- Proactively project-manage multiple documentation projects/initiatives concurrently to ensure that priorities are addressed appropriately, and that all standard team processes are followed
- Track ongoing product iterations and improvements across different regions worldwide to ensure that all information, including region-specific information, is properly documented, and socialized in a timely manner
- Interact directly with hardware and/or software products hands-on to fully understand how they work, to create content more effectively with the deeper product understanding in mind
- Manage document translations to support successful worldwide deployment of products and region-specific information availability
What You’ll Bring
- Currently pursuing a degree in a relevant discipline such as Technical Writing, English, Communication, or Engineering
- Strong technical writing skills – must be a writer first and foremost
- Exemplary verbal and written communication skills, with a proficiency in English grammar, spelling, and punctuation
- Personal or academic projects that demonstrate your ability to create high-quality documents
- Experience authoring documents of various length and complexity from scratch
- Experience using topic-based (DITA) authoring tools is a plus
- Experience writing about hardware or engineering topics is a plus
This position is expected to start May 2025 and continue through the entire Summer term (i.e. through August/September 2025) or into Fall 2025 if available. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships.
