Join Better Utah as we hold public officials accountable and drive the narrative for progressive politics in Utah.
Better Utah communications interns are a key part of the Better Utah team. Working with the staff, interns will help develop written communications, create social media content, draft calls to action and petitions, attend legislative and redistricting commission meetings, help with messaging, and plan events. Additionally, interns have the chance to network with other advocacy organizations, elected leaders, and other influential Utahns. Those who intern with Better Utah often have their work published on our website, as well as in local newspapers.
Our internships are a part-time paid internship (15-20 hours per week) that lasts 10 weeks. Interns are paid at a rate of $15/hr and the exact schedule will be determined in collaboration with the intern after hire.

Policy & Communications
Internship opportunities may include:
- Policy research supporting our Policy Director
- Website and content management
- Email and press release drafting
- Other projects as assigned
In this role, you’ll work with the Policy Director and deepen your understanding of the Utah political landscape. Interns will have the opportunity to write, edit and publish their own website and print content with the support of Better Utah.
Qualifications
Applicants need to be self-motivated, have an interest in our projects and issues, a willingness to learn new skills and ideas, have an understanding of major social media platforms and Canva, and a strong desire to make a difference. We are looking for interns with strong writing and editing skills, exceptional critical thinking, and a keen eye for detail and accuracy. Knowledge of electoral and legislative processes is a plus.

Social Media & Content Creation
Internship opportunities may include:
- Developing traditional and social media strategies for policy and advocacy work
- Creating social media content, including TikToks & Reels
- Copywriting

In this role, you’ll work directly with the Communications Director and develop your understanding of how to use social media and content for social good. Interns will have the opportunity to build their strategic planning, copywriting and content creation skills and walk away with portfolio pieces.
Qualifications
Applicants need to be self-motivated, have an interest in our projects and issues, a willingness to learn new skills and ideas, have an understanding of major social media platforms and Canva, and a strong desire to make a difference. We are looking for interns with strong understanding of video and visual content on social media, exceptional critical thinking, and a keen eye for visual design. Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, and video editing software is appreciated.
Knowledge of election and legislative processes is a plus.
