Editing Internship (apply by Nov. 24)

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Logo Image

An intern is needed to help support full-time editors in their work of handling and maintaining English scripture files. The intern will assist with writing and editing study helps for a scriptures-related app. The intern will also help mark up scripture source files and help develop computer-based workflow and quality checks for scriptures in all languages. Other assignments related to scriptures and general conference document files are likely.

Qualifications

Paid Interns are qualified while enrolled in an educational institution and for one year following graduation. They must sign a Paid Internship Engagement Letter.

  • Applicants must be currently or recently enrolled in an editing-related field.
  • Must have strong editorial and writing skills in English.
  • Knowledge of one or more other human languages or of linguistics in general is helpful.
  • Applicants must either have some knowledge of the XSL programming language or have an aptitude for coding and a willingness to learn it.
  • Expert-level skill is not required. Ongoing training on company time will be provided.

Student Job: Writer, Marketing and Communications for Church Philanthropies

The Philanthropies Department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is responsible to correlate, encourage, and facilitate voluntary philanthropic contributions—beyond tithes and offerings—to organizations and activities affiliated with the Church, including Brigham Young University. Working with a Marketing and Communications creative team, under the direction of the team manager, the student writer will research stories, interview subjects, and write copy for newsletters, solicitation letters, event materials, etc. Student writer will write articles to be published at give.byu.edu. Candidates should have an understanding of the creative process, be comfortable having their writing edited, and work well as a member of a deadline-driven team. Organization and time-management skills are essential for success. Experience working with editors and designers is a definite plus. Students seeking a degree in journalism, public relations, or English will be given preference.
