Heather Bergeson: New Era Magazine

"I loved this internship because of the people I was able to work with and because I was able to use principles I learned in my classes to make a difference in the real world."

Heather B.

I completed my internship with LDS Church Publications in the Winter 2019 semester. As an intern, I worked with an editorial and design team to brainstorm ideas, create content, and produce issues of the New Era magazine. The staff there is incredible and they are really focused on making interns feel like they’re a part of the team.

While there, I learned a lot about the magazine publication process and I loved how fast-paced and deadline-oriented everything was. The work was definitely challenging, and I had a lot of responsibilities, ranging from writing and editing articles to interviewing church members and working with author submissions, but it was so cool to know that the articles I was working on were going to be published and read by people all over the world.

I also enjoyed how enriching the work environment was, both mentally and spiritually. It was great to be able to start meetings with a prayer and focus on how the Church could help support and strengthen the youth. I loved this internship because of the people I was able to work with and because I was able to use principles I learned in my classes to make a difference in the real world.

For more information about Church Publication internships, watch for information meetings on campus in September and January (usually the third or fourth Thursday).
