Content Writing Internship with the HTDS Podcast

HTDS Podcast Image

As an HTDS Content Writer, you will be working closely with the Director of Operations to format and cite footnotes and endnotes in Chicago style on past episodes, in order to prepare them to be uploaded to the website. This may include searching for sources to cover information if the previously used source is no longer available. There also may be some basic editing and proofreading of scripts as needed.

About the Podcast: “History That Doesn’t Suck (HTDS) is a bi-weekly podcast, delivering a legit, seriously researched, hard-hitting survey of American history through entertaining stories.” Downloaded by the hundreds of thousands each month, more than 3,000,000 times overall, and frequently trending in the top 20s and 30s in Apple Podcast’s “history” section, HTDS numbers among the most popular and influential history podcasts in the United States.

About the Host: Dr. Greg Jackson is the Creator, Host, and Head Writer of HTDS. He is Assistant Professor of Integrated Studies and Assistant Director of National Security Studies at UVU. He holds a Ph.D. in history from the U of U, as well as a Masters and B.A. from BYU (French Studies and History).

Qualifications: Of particular interest are applicants who are strong in their knowledge of the Chicago citation style. The ideal candidate would also be able to analyze a quality source if needed and have past editing experience, but that’s not a necessity. Being able to be flexible is a must. A good sense of humor will help; this podcast is (almost) as irreverent as it is rigorous. Care to join the team?

How to Apply: Prove your mettle by submitting a writing sample (any length but with footnotes); a (brief) statement of interest; and the contact info for two potential references (preferably professors). You can email your letter and references to “contact@htdspodcast.com” with the subject line “internship.”
