The College of Life Sciences student writer interviews, writes, edits, and promotes stories on an array of compelling topics from tracking cougars to fighting malnutrition in developing countries. With eight academic units, the College of Life Sciences provides a large pool of interesting, diverse content. If you love to uncover intriguing facts or share engaging stories and want to develop a strong writing portfolio, we would love to work with you.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interview interesting students, faculty, and alumni
- Write and edit engaging magazine features
- Write news articles for our website, internal communications, local media, and donors
- Work with departments to identify and propose story ideas
Qualifications:
- Strong writing skills and news writing experience preferred
- Strong editing skills and proficient in APA and Chicago style
- Ability to write both straight news and feature style articles
- Strong verbal communication skills to effectively interview sources
- Works well on concurrent projects, meeting all deadlines
- Ability to work independently as well as with the team
- Innovative while taking direction and feedback with grace
- Self-motivated, creative, and strong attention to details
- Journalism, public relations, editing and publishing, and English majors especially encouraged to apply
