FamilySearch International, the largest genealogy organization in the world, is looking for a full-time, paid SEO writing intern for a period of up to one year. This individual will support our worldwide efforts to attract new users to FamilySearch.org in 40+ languages. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a variety of writing styles and formats. You will work on a small team with experienced professionals who work closely with marketing, events, and engineering teams.
Candidates must be in an educational institution or have graduated less than a year ago in marketing, communications, professional or technical writing, or a related field. They must have strong and flexible writing skills plus coursework or practical experience in SEO keyword research and writing. Because this is a full-time position, we prefer a recent graduate but would also consider college seniors or grad students who bring the needed skills and can work the needed hours.
This is a hybrid position with 4 days in our Lehi office and one day remote. Typical hours are 8am-5pm Mountain time, Monday through Friday. An exception to this is the week of our annual RootsTech conference (3rd-8th of March). During this conference, the hours may be earlier or later, the assignments may be onsite the full week, and a Saturday may be required.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with marketing, design, and engineering teams to create optimized content that improves search engine rankings and drives organic traffic to the website. This includes conducting research to identify high-impact keywords and integrating them naturally into meta descriptions, page titles, headings, and other on-site copy.
- Write clear and engaging copy for user interfaces to enhance the user experience. This may include in-context help, error messages, labels, and other user-facing messages in web and mobile products.
- Kindly collaborate with teams across the department. Other assignments may include writing for our blog or campaigns. Team members are frequently asked to chip in on copywriting, editing, testing, providing feedback, generating ideas, managing metadata, conducting research, and so forth.
- Assist where needed with our annual RootsTech event.
- Try, learn, pivot -- gather data, measure and analyze; identify key learnings, then try again using inspiration.
- Learn our CMS (content management system).
- Record and document the processes and best practices you acquire to help future interns be successful.
Qualifications
- Recently graduated within the last year in marketing, communications, technical or professional writing, or a related field. Currently enrolled students who can work full-time and meet the other requirements will also be considered.
- Exceptional writing skills with a strong command of English grammar and style. Must be able to write using different styles and tones as required by the requirements of the project and needs of the user. Submitting an online portfolio on your application or resume would be an excellent way to demonstrate your versatility and experience.
- Proficiency in SEO best practices, keyword research, and tools, such as SEM Rush or Conductor.
- Preference given to multilingual candidates or those with international experience.
- Detail-oriented and able to manage own work and priorities based on current assignments.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to think creatively and approach experiences with fresh perspectives and ingenuity.
- High energy, commitment to the end goals and those we serve, and willingness to work hard, achieve high standards, and celebrate success.
- Must be self-motivated with a high level of integrity.
