The Narrative Design Intern will support Hasbro’s Gaming organization in crafting storytelling experiences that bring our games to life. In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with Mid‑Level and Senior Narrative Designers to create on-brand narrative content across the entire games portfolio. This includes writing package copy, naming content, thematic card text, narrative elements, game rules, and other creative assets that shape the player experience.

You will work alongside a talented cross-functional team of Graphic Designers, Game Designers, Engineers, Project Managers, and Product Managers to help bring innovative new games to market. This internship blends creative writing, storytelling, editorial accuracy, and cross-functional collaboration ideal for someone who loves games, worldbuilding, and creating engaging player-facing content.

This is a unique opportunity to grow as a narrative designer while helping shape the stories, tone, and thematic identity of Hasbro’s future games.

What You’ll Do as a Narrative Design Intern:

  • Brainstorm themes, story concepts, and tone to drive narrative-based game experiences.
  • Write compelling, on-brand package copy, including product names, taglines, and thematic descriptions.
  • Collaborate with Game Designers to develop, test, and refine gameplay loops, then craft accurate, accessible game rules and reference materials.
  • Create engaging, audience-centric card content and other narrative game elements.
  • Work with Graphic Designers to support on-trend, on-brand packaging, unboxing experiences, and communication assets.
  • Complete editorial tasks including research, fact-checking, proofreading, and document management.
  • Participate as an active, creative member of a cross-functional team contributing ideas in brainstorms, playtests, and status meetings.
  • Embrace surprises, ask questions freely, have fun, and of course play lots of games!

Qualifications & Technical Skills

Required:

  • Demonstrated talent for creative writing, storytelling, and narrative design.
  • Solid technical writing and editorial skills, including grammar, clarity, and accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Ability to pivot quickly, adapt to change, and collaborate in a lively creative environment.
  • Capacity to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong time/project management skills with ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • Outstanding attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Curiosity, enthusiasm, and a motivation to learn.
  • A genuine love of games.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of information design, layout fundamentals, or how players interpret rules and systems.
  • Experience creating card content, worldbuilding, or gameplay-adjacent narrative material.
  • Familiarity with narrative tools, writing systems, or interactive storytelling pipelines (a plus, not required).

Nice to Have:

  • Highly creative, imaginative, and detail-oriented writing style.
  • Systems thinker who enjoys building cohesive worlds, rules, tone, and player experiences.
  • Collaborative mindset and comfort working with stakeholders across disciplines.
  • Passion for gameplay, storytelling, and how players emotionally engage with games.

Compensation Range (USD):

Undergraduate Interns: $27.00 – $33.00/hour

Program Details

Program Dates:

  • Start: Early June (target June 8)
  • End: Late August (target August 21)

Commitment: Full-time (40 hours/week)

Compensation:

  • Undergraduate Interns: $25.00 – $31.00/hour
  • Final rates communicated during offer process
