Apply by July 21 for July 2023. As the United States navigates today’s complex strategic environment, it needs to nurture new leaders capable of understanding and addressing contemporary challenges. The internship program at the American Foreign Policy Council (AFPC) provides aspiring young foreign policy leaders with the opportunity to thrive and begin contributing to national security in a meaningful way.
This internship qualifies participants to participate in BYU's Washington Seminar Program. Washington Seminar still has space available for fall semester and it’s not too early to be planning for winter semester.

AFPC’s internships are awarded three times a year (January to April, May to August, and September to December). Our program is rigorous and research-based; as such, we award positions only to those who are capable of serious work. Almost all our interns delve into large research projects and assist with the publication of articles and/or the organizing and execution of events with foreign dignitaries. Interns are provided the opportunity to work closely with foreign policy professionals, thanks to the relatively small size of our organization and the selectivity of our intern program. Many of our interns have been published in prestigious media outlets, including, The Hill, Newsweek, The National Interest, the Washington Times, CNN.com, and the Wall Street Journal Europe, among others.
FULLY FUNDED OPPORTUNITIES
AFPC was formally awarded a grant from the Ascendium Education Group to underwrite qualifying interns’ housing expenses, meals, local transportation costs, and a flight to/from DC. The grant applies specifically to undergraduate students who require financial support (must prove federal U.S. Pell grant eligibility) to travel to and live in DC as well as earn college credit for their internships.
Intern Responsibilities
Responsibilities vary depending on program schedule, but may include:
• editorial assistance with publications
• logistical support of foreign delegations in Washington
• foreign policy research and writing
• general administrative support
• special events planning
