The job of Communications Intern works directly with the Coordinator of Communications and Public Relations to implement a marketing and communications plan for Provo City School District. Responsibilities include developing relationships with the news media, District Staff and community; creating and coordinating information for news media; preparing written communications and materials; and assisting with the District’s social media efforts.
This job reports to the Coordinator of Communications and Public Relations
Assists with the implementation of the District’s marketing and communications plan for the purpose(s) of creating a positive public perception of the District.
Researches write and coordinate the distribution of news releases to the media for the purpose of clearly articulating District goals, initiatives, and decisions.
Under the supervision of the Coordinator of Communications and Public Relations, arranges media interviews, writes scripts, takes photographs, and creates slide shows for the District
Assists with the planning and organization of Provo School District Foundation events such as Evening of Excellence and Golf Tournament.
Assists with the implementation of the District’s social media initiatives for the purpose of ensuring appropriate and relevant use of social media sites.
Assists and coordinates with the content managers of the District and school social media platforms.
Monitors news agencies and other agencies/websites for content about or related to Provo City School District.
Assists with the development of collateral material (i.e. video production, District website, brochures, flyers, newsletters, newspapers, social media, etc.) for the purpose of promoting District Goals and Initiatives.
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Minimum Job Requirements:
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include current and emerging technology; English grammar/punctuation/ spelling/vocabulary; and office equipment/software.
