The Office of Mayor’s Initiatives and Special Projects oversees a range of policy initiatives, special projects, program partnerships, and funding collaborations that help achieve Mayor Ben McAdams’ vision for the greater Salt Lake metropolitan area. We work with local governments and with national, state, and private sector partners to develop collective action around regional challenges, entrenched social problems, and unique opportunities to maximize the public good. This currently includes policy initiatives on regional development, public asset management, homelessness and housing, criminal justice reform, and child and family stability.
The successful candidate will support the Office of Mayor Ben McAdams in Salt Lake County’s work with community outreach and engagement. The internship is specifically designed for candidates with a strong interest in government and political affairs and presents an unrivaled opportunity to learn about constituent relations and community partnerships. The internship with the Salt Lake County government will focus primarily on supporting the members of the Mayor’s office and Community Engagement and Outreach team with a variety of projects and administrative goals. In addition to the county-level work, the internship will also expose interns to state and federal work. A mentor will be assigned to guide and assist the intern’s development and growth.
This intern will assist in the implementation of new projects including the development of systems such as procedures and protocols, data collection mechanisms, and reporting structures. This internship is also involved with producing events, conducting research, and preparing project reports, progress summaries, statistical analysis, and related data.
The intern will report directly to the Director of Diversity and Inclusion. Students are expected to embrace diversity; they should be able to work with and engage with people from diverse communities in Salt Lake County. The intern will assist in maintaining weekly newsletters (Mail Chimp), events, and job postings as well as the diversity website www.slco.org/diversity. The intern will assist in the planning and production of the Office of Diversity Affairs events, attend Council on Diversity Affairs (CODA) subcommittee meetings, and manage and schedule high school presentations.
