|The Department of Human Services is looking for a dedicated individual to work with the Public Information Officer, Graphic Design/MultiMedia Specialist and Communications Director for a three-month period of 20 hours per week helping with internal and external communications and media activities.
The Communications Intern will need to be able to:
assist in implementing communication strategies that has a significant impact on DHS public and/or governmental relations
develop ideas and write content and ensure accuracy and consistency for DHS employee communications, social media channels, website, blog and pressroom using AP Style
perform design, format and layout for printed, online, web and related materials of a finished and professional nature consistent with the Department brand
monitor, research, verify and share media and social medial mentions of DHS including relevant articles/issues that advise strategic direction
edit written and visual material for accurate, format and consistent brand
assist agency clients and Department to formulate projects such as flyers, newsletters, brochures, videos, presentations, training material, etc. The Ideal Candidate

work independently with little or no supervision
prioritize and organize time and workload to meet deadlines
communicate information and ideas clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing
read and understand information presented verbally, in journalism-style writing and in social media language with short deadlines
find alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral and visual media
deal with people and topics in a manner that shows sensitivity and professionalism
use graphic design tools, web content editors and desktop publishing software
perform research using the Internet and other computer-related sources

Preference may be given to applicants who:
have one or two years communications education
are current students (may also look at those who are not current students)
